Bristol & surrounding areas · Full & partial rewiring

House rewiring in Bristol.
Planned room by room.

A full or partial rewire needs a room-by-room plan, an agreed installation sequence and a clear understanding of disruption. PB Electrical helps define the electrical work before floors, plaster and decoration close up the routes.

Agree positions, access, disruption and the build sequence before installation starts.

Choose your starting point

What are you considering a rewire for?

A rewire needs a defined point schedule and a practical programme, whether it covers the whole property or a limited area.

Your next step

A full property renovation

Use the opportunity to plan sockets, lighting, appliance supplies and controls together. The electrical layout needs to be settled early enough for first fix.

What the job involves

An electrical plan you can work from.

A rewire should have a defined point schedule and a working sequence. Agree what is being replaced, what stays and how the electrical stages fit the wider renovation.

The scope, access and basis of the price are discussed before work is agreed.

Get a rewire quoteStart with the details you know. Max can clarify the rest.
Review the existing installation and the proposed room layouts.

Mark the rooms involved and distinguish the wiring proposed for replacement from anything intended to remain.

Agree positions for sockets, switches, lights and fixed equipment.

Use furniture, appliances and everyday routines to settle positions. Include switching groups and fixed equipment before installation.

Plan circuits, routes and consumer unit requirements.

The design considers the proposed equipment and available routes alongside the distribution and protection requirements.

Coordinate first fix and second fix with the wider renovation.

Share the builder’s programme. First fix needs accessible routes; second fix needs the room and equipment ready.

Complete testing, relevant certification and applicable notification.

Allow time for final checks and the records appropriate to the agreed work, including applicable Building Regulations notification.

Before the appointmentUseful decisions to discuss with Max.

Before the appointment

Settle the details that become expensive to change later.

Room plans, the building schedule and whether the property will be occupied help make the first discussion useful.

Positions and everyday use

Walk through furniture positions, worktops, beds, desks and appliances. A socket count is less useful than a layout that matches how each room will be used.

Occupied or empty property

Rewiring can involve lifting floors, chasing walls and planned loss of power. Tell us whether the property will be occupied so the sequence and access can be discussed realistically.

Making good and other trades

Confirm who is responsible for chasing, plaster repairs, decoration and moving or reinstating fittings. These boundaries should be in the quote rather than assumed.

How the job worksFrom your first enquiry to the final handover.

Electrical work by PB Electrical

Bring the electrical plan into the wider renovation.

Leave the renovation with a usable electrical record.

The handover should identify the work completed, the circuits serving the rooms and the relevant installation certification. Applicable notification should be addressed. Keep these records with appliance information and the wider renovation documents.

Plan your particular job

Plan the work around everyday life.

An occupied house and an empty renovation need different working arrangements. Settle the sequence before committing to dates.

Rewiring while someone lives in the property

Identify the rooms that must remain usable, who will be at home and where furniture can move. Ask which circuits or rooms will be unavailable at each stage, how the work area will be separated and what happens at the end of each working day.

Do not assume the existing wiring can remain energised while adjacent work proceeds. Any temporary arrangements, safe access and testing need an agreed plan. If the required disruption cannot be accommodated, discuss alternative occupancy before the programme is confirmed.

Discuss this job
Replacing wiring in stages

Decorating one room at a time does not necessarily allow its wiring to be replaced independently. Existing circuits may cross several rooms or share routes. Ask the electrician to establish the circuit boundaries and whether a staged design is practical.

Agree the end point of each stage: which wiring is replaced, which remains, what is tested and what documentation applies. Record the remaining scope so a later contractor can understand the installation rather than rely on a room-by-room decorating list.

What affects the quoteEquipment, access and the details Max needs.

Understand the quote

What affects the scope and price?

A meaningful rewire quote needs the actual property and the proposed electrical schedule. Floor access, wall construction, occupancy, fitting choices and associated work can change the scope substantially.

The quote takes account of:

full or partial replacement; number and type of electrical points; access and property occupancy; fittings, making good and programme.

Bring the renovation plan into the first conversation.

Room plans, the building schedule and whether the property will be occupied help make the first discussion useful.

  • Share floor plans or a simple room list.
  • List fixed appliances and any equipment needing a dedicated supply.
  • Decide who will handle plastering and decoration.
  • Mention other trades and the dates when access will close up.

Practical answers

Questions before you book.

How long does a rewire take?

The programme depends on the size, scope, access and whether the property is occupied. A schedule should be agreed after the work has been assessed rather than promised from a bedroom count.

Ask Max about this
Can I stay in the house during the work?

Sometimes, but it changes the logistics. Dust, floor access and power interruptions must be discussed before assuming the property can remain in normal use.

Ask Max about this
Does the rewire quote include plaster repairs and decoration?

Check the written quote for chasing, patch repairs, floor reinstatement and decoration. These tasks may be arranged with other trades. Agree who does each one before work starts so the electrical price and the renovation budget cover the work you expect.

Ask Max about this
Should I rewire before fitting a new kitchen?

Discuss the electrical plan before units, worktops and finishes are installed. Wiring and appliance requirements can affect the installation sequence.

Ask Max about this
How much does a house rewire cost?

The quote follows the point schedule, circuit requirements, property access and agreed fittings. Occupied rooms, difficult routes and making good can change the scope substantially. Send a room plan and say which finishes are being replaced so quotations can be compared on the same work.

Ask Max about this
Can I rewire just part of my house?

A partial rewire may suit a defined renovation or damaged circuit, subject to assessment of the retained installation. Be clear about which rooms and circuits are included, where new work connects to existing wiring and what remains unchanged. The quote should explain those boundaries.

Ask Max about this
What documents should I receive after a house rewire?

Ask for the relevant Electrical Installation Certificate, circuit information and applicable Building Regulations compliance documentation. Keep them with the agreed scope and property records. Before work starts, confirm who handles notification and how any retained circuits or exclusions will be recorded.
