What the service includesDefine the work needed at your premises.

Define the work

Turn the observations into a defined work list.

The report explains the concerns; the remedial quotation should explain what will be done about them.

01

Read the complete report

Send the EICR with its observation pages, circuit schedules and test results rather than a cropped summary. The installation description and recorded limitations help explain what was assessed. If another contractor has already completed part of the work, include the relevant records so the outstanding scope can be discussed accurately.

02

Separate repair from investigation

A clear defect may support a defined repair, while an unresolved finding may need further investigation first. Ask which tasks can be quoted now and which depend on access or test findings. This keeps the quotation connected to evidence and avoids ordering parts before the cause or extent is understood.

03

Agree evidence of completed work

Discuss the appropriate records for the remedial tasks and how they relate to the original report. An existing EICR and a certificate for later work describe different things. Agree what will be provided and what your landlord, insurer or facilities contact needs to review once the defined work has been completed.

Plan around your businessAccess, equipment and keeping the premises running.

Keep the premises in mind

Prioritise the concerns and arrange the people needed.

A report can involve urgent action, access decisions and several people responsible for different parts of the building.

Follow the urgency recorded in the report

Do not leave an immediate concern waiting in an email queue. Contact the inspector or Max promptly to discuss the recorded advice and call if the situation may be unsafe. The observations distinguish danger, potential danger, further investigation and recommended improvement; those differences should inform the order in which action is arranged.

Confirm who can authorise each task

In leased or shared premises, responsibility for the intake, distribution equipment and circuits may involve different parties. Identify the person who can approve the quotation and provide access. A report sent to your business does not necessarily mean your team controls every area needed to carry out the proposed work.

Group work around practical interruptions

Several remedial tasks may affect the same circuit or room. Discuss whether they can be coordinated within an agreed access window, and which systems need planned shutdown and restart. Any phasing must still reflect the urgency of the findings rather than postponing a serious concern simply to suit the diary.

How to arrange the workFrom the first discussion to an agreed job.

From first contact to agreed work

Know the next step.

You can enquire before every detail is settled. The work, access and price are agreed before booking.

  1. Send the full EICR

Include observations, schedules, the inspection date and any urgent advice. Explain whether work has already been completed and provide the relevant records if it has.

  2. Agree priorities and the quotation

Discuss defined repairs, any investigation still needed and access responsibilities. Confirm the scope, price and interruption arrangements with the person authorised to approve the remedial work.

  3. Keep the completion records together

Review the agreed work and any remaining actions. Store the appropriate completion records alongside the original EICR so the responsible premises contact can understand what was addressed.

Practical answers

Questions about commercial eicr remedial work.

Does an unsatisfactory EICR mean the premises need rewiring?

Not automatically. The observations describe the concerns found within the inspection scope, and the appropriate response depends on those findings. Some issues may involve defined repairs; others need investigation or wider work. Send the full report so the discussion is based on the actual installation and recorded defects.

Ask Max about this
What do C1, C2, C3 and FI mean?

C1 indicates danger present, C2 potential danger, and C3 recommends improvement. On an Amendment 4 report, FI advises further investigation; FI and C3 do not alone make the assessment unsatisfactory. Older reports may use different wording. Read the observations, assessment and inspector advice together; a code alone cannot define the repair or its cost.

Ask Max about this
Can you carry out repairs from another electrician’s EICR?

PB Electrical can review the report and discuss the remedial work. Send the complete document, including observations and test schedules, plus records of repairs already completed. Some findings may need further assessment before an accurate repair scope and price can be confirmed.

Ask Max about this
Will remedial work change the original EICR?

The original report records the condition found at the inspection. Later remedial work needs the appropriate completion records for the tasks carried out. Discuss how those documents will be supplied and reviewed together, especially if a landlord or insurer has requested evidence that particular observations have been addressed.

Ask Max about this
Can improvements be grouped with other electrical alterations?

Tell Max about both the report findings and any planned changes so related access and interruptions can be discussed. The priorities still need to reflect the urgency of the observations. Keep the remedial tasks identifiable in the quotation, rather than losing the action needed on the report within a larger refurbishment list.

Ask Max about this
Do all C3 recommendations on a commercial EICR need doing at once?

A C3 recommends improvement and does not alone make the assessment unsatisfactory. Ask the inspector to explain each observation and its relationship to other findings. Your organisation may also have insurer, lease or maintenance requirements, so agree priorities using the actual report rather than its codes alone.

Ask Max about this
What do you need to quote for commercial EICR repairs?

Send the complete report, including observations, test schedules and limitations, rather than a photograph of the result page alone. Explain occupancy, access and shutdown windows. Some findings need investigation before a repair can be priced accurately; the quote should distinguish those stages and any exclusions.
