Your next step

Choosing equipment and checking the supply

Send the model or the options under consideration. Checking the electrical requirements early helps establish what work needs pricing before you commit to a delivery date.

Define the work

Define the connection before delivery.

Equipment size or appearance does not establish its electrical requirements. The manufacturer’s information and the existing installation are the starting points for a defined supply.

01

Manufacturer’s electrical requirements

Provide the exact model and its installation instructions, including supply and connection information. A sales photograph or product name alone may not be enough. If the equipment supplier specifies a connection arrangement, share it before the route and accessories are priced so the electrical scope is based on that equipment.

02

Supply, isolation and final position

The available supply needs assessment against the proposed equipment and its location. Agree where connection and isolation points will sit, how they can be reached and how the cable will get there. Furniture, service access and another installer’s work can all affect the position of the final electrical connection.

03

A clear boundary with the equipment installer

An electrical supply is one part of bringing new equipment into use. Identify who is delivering, assembling, connecting and commissioning it, and what each party expects to find ready. PB Electrical’s quotation should define its electrical work; specialist installation, servicing or internal equipment repairs need to be agreed with the relevant provider.

Plan around your businessAccess, equipment and keeping the premises running.

Keep the premises in mind

Keep the delivery schedule realistic.

The useful date is the point when the supply, the room and the equipment installer can all be ready together.

Existing capacity and circuit condition

Do not rely on an unused outlet or spare position in a board as confirmation that the equipment can be connected. Share any existing electrical records and the equipment requirements. Max can discuss the assessment needed and whether the proposed job involves a new circuit, alterations or further work before connection.

Delivery, positioning and service access

Confirm the final location with the equipment supplier, including clearance for maintenance and access to controls. A connection positioned before the layout is settled may obstruct a panel or end up behind fixed furniture. Note the dates when the room and cable route will be accessible, not just the delivery date.

Shutdown and handover responsibilities

Identify which existing systems could be affected while the supply work is undertaken. Your responsible staff may need to shut down or restart equipment, and the supplier may have commissioning requirements. Agree who will attend, what testing or records cover the electrical work and when the new equipment can be brought into use.

How to arrange the workFrom the first discussion to an agreed job.

From first contact to agreed work

Know the next step.

You can enquire before every detail is settled. The work, access and price are agreed before booking.

  1. Send the equipment details

Include the exact model, installation instructions and premises postcode. Explain whether this is a replacement or new item and whether a delivery or commissioning date has already been agreed with others.

  2. Assess and define the supply

Max discusses the existing installation, final connection position and access. Confirm the electrical scope and coordination with your equipment installer before committing the work to a particular attendance or price.

  3. Coordinate installation and records

Arrange the agreed electrical work alongside the equipment installation sequence. Keep the electrical records with the equipment documents and confirm which provider is responsible for its connection, commissioning and subsequent servicing.

Practical answers

Questions about commercial equipment power supplies.

Can you provide an electrical supply for an air-conditioning unit?

PB Electrical has completed dedicated electrical supply work for air-conditioning equipment. Send the exact unit and the installer’s requirements for your proposed job. The quotation can define the electrical connection work and coordination needed; installing, commissioning or servicing the air-conditioning system itself remains a separate scope to agree with its installer.

Ask Max about this
Can the new equipment use the old equipment’s connection?

That needs checking against the replacement model and the existing installation. Two items used for the same purpose can have different electrical requirements. Send the new instructions and any details of the previous arrangement so Max can discuss the assessment needed before a connection is assumed suitable or a price confirmed.

Ask Max about this
Does the electrical supply quote include equipment commissioning?

A supply quotation covers the electrical work stated in it. Equipment assembly, specialist commissioning, servicing and internal repairs need to be agreed with the equipment provider. Confirm who handles the final connection and what must be ready for each installer before arranging attendance.

Ask Max about this
Should we book delivery before arranging the electrician?

It is useful to discuss the electrical requirements and access before fixing a commissioning date. Existing circuit condition, the cable route or other trades may affect the work needed. If equipment is already ordered, send the delivery date with the instructions so Max can discuss the practical sequence and availability.

Ask Max about this
Can you quote from the equipment’s power rating alone?

A rating is helpful but may not describe the complete installation requirement. The instructions can specify the supply arrangement, connection and isolation requirements, while the premises determine the route and existing supply conditions. Send the full information you have; Max can identify what else is needed to define the electrical work.

Ask Max about this
Do we need a three-phase supply for new commercial equipment?

Check the exact manufacturer's requirements rather than inferring the supply from the equipment size or appearance. Share its installation instructions and the existing supply details if known. A new circuit or board alteration cannot create a supply characteristic that the building does not already have.

Ask Max about this
Who should coordinate the electrician and the equipment installer?

Nominate a contact to bring together the manufacturer's connection requirements, equipment position, delivery date and commissioning arrangements. Agree where the electrician's work ends and the equipment specialist's work begins. Include isolation, access and testing before either trade is booked against an assumed scope.
