What the service includesDefine the work needed at your premises.

Define the work

Power where the work happens.

Start with the places where staff use equipment. The visible socket is one part of an addition; the existing installation and the route behind it also need consideration.

01

Sockets for the actual equipment

List what will be connected at each workstation, counter or work area. A printer, display or cleaning appliance may need power in a different position from the nearest existing outlet. Agree the quantity, location and accessory finish against your layout before furniture or stock obstructs access.

02

Circuits and routes

An addition needs a suitable point of connection and a practical route to its destination. Max can assess the relevant existing circuit and discuss whether new wiring or a separate circuit is needed. Ceiling access, surface containment and finished walls affect the options and should appear in the quotation.

03

Alterations within an occupied space

A business can need a modest electrical change without a complete refit. Explain which desks, counters or rooms are affected and which areas must remain available. The plan should identify the work zone, any power interruption and who can authorise access on the day of the visit.

Plan around your businessAccess, equipment and keeping the premises running.

Keep the premises in mind

Agree the disruption before the date.

Knowing when power can be interrupted and how the work area will be cleared makes an installation easier to plan around your customers and staff.

Equipment that cannot simply be unplugged

Mention payment terminals, network equipment, refrigeration and other systems affected by a loss of power. Your responsible staff or equipment provider may need to manage their shutdown and restart. Discuss these arrangements before attendance; an occupied building does not mean electrical work can be completed without any interruption.

Furniture, stock and access

Identify desks, shelves, stored goods and any locked rooms along the proposed route. Agree who will move them and when. If the work involves a shared corridor, neighbouring tenant or landlord-controlled electrical room, arrange the relevant permission rather than assuming access will be available on arrival.

The complete finished result

Decide whether the price includes accessories, containment and making good, and identify any decorating or joinery that another trade will complete. Ask which testing and electrical records will accompany the work. This helps compare quotations for the same scope instead of comparing the number of visible outlets alone.

How to arrange the workFrom the first discussion to an agreed job.

From first contact to agreed work

Know the next step.

You can enquire before every detail is settled. The work, access and price are agreed before booking.

  1. Show the change

Send your postcode, a description of the additions and a sketch or photographs of the affected area. Include the equipment involved and any date tied to a delivery or move.

  2. Confirm the installation plan

Max discusses positions, access and any assessment needed. Agree the electrical scope, equipment responsibilities and acceptable interruption before the attendance and price are confirmed for your particular premises.

  3. Install and hand over

The agreed work is installed and tested. Keep the relevant electrical records with your premises documents and make sure the person managing the building understands the altered circuit arrangements.

Practical answers

Questions about commercial electrical installations.

Can you add sockets without a complete business refit?

An addition may be possible without replacing the whole installation, but the proposed use and the existing circuit need checking first. Explain the equipment and where it will be used. Max can discuss the practical route, any assessment required and the basis of a quote for that defined area.

Ask Max about this
Do extra sockets mean we have more electrical capacity?

More outlets do not by themselves establish that a circuit can supply more equipment. Share the intended appliances and how they will be used together. The assessment needs to consider the existing installation and the proposed demand before the number and type of connection points are agreed.

Ask Max about this
Can the work happen while our business is open?

That depends on the affected circuits, the work area and how it can be separated from staff and customers. Some stages need power to be interrupted. Tell Max your opening hours and critical activities so access and a suitable attendance period can be discussed before the work is booked.

Ask Max about this
Should we buy the sockets or fittings ourselves?

Discuss the specification and supply responsibility first. Accessories need to suit their use, the installation method and the environment. If you have a preferred product, send its details before purchasing. The quote can then identify what PB Electrical supplies and what you are arranging separately for the agreed work.

Ask Max about this
Will adding sockets leave visible cables or damage the walls?

That depends on the available route and the finish you want. Concealed wiring may require opening walls or ceilings; surface containment may be an option where access is limited. Agree the route, visible finish and any plastering or decoration before accepting the quote.

Ask Max about this
Can floor boxes or power points be moved when desks are rearranged?

The floor construction, existing wiring, access and new furniture layout need assessment. Provide a marked plan showing desks, walkways and the equipment being supplied. Agree electrical work alongside any data-cabling responsibilities, floor repairs and furniture moves so the new positions work together.

Ask Max about this
Can sockets be installed before the equipment delivery date?

They can be planned in advance once the equipment specifications and positions are sufficiently clear. Share the manufacturer's connection instructions and delivery programme. The supply design, final connection and commissioning responsibilities need agreement before assuming an ordinary socket is appropriate for the new equipment.
