shape the work.

The new shower must suit the existing supply or have the necessary electrical changes planned. Its casing, entry positions and fixing pattern also affect plumbing, tiles and the overall replacement cost.

01

Replacement compatibility

Send the make and model of the existing and proposed showers, with photographs showing the unit and surrounding wall. The fixing positions, size and visible cable or water-entry layout can affect a replacement. Two similar-looking showers may leave different openings or need changes to the connections.

02

Rating and supply assessment

Share the existing and proposed power ratings, if you know them, and mention any increase in output. A higher-rated shower may require changes to the cable, protection or supply. The installation still needs checking when replacing a shower with another of the same rating.

03

Who does which work

Say whether you have already bought the shower and whether you expect changes to the water connection or wall finish. Agree who supplies the unit, completes the electrical and plumbing work, removes the old shower and repairs any disturbed finishes before booking.

Practical answers

Questions about electric shower supplies.

Can I replace my shower with a higher-kW model?

Have the proposed model and existing supply assessed before buying. A higher power rating can change the electrical requirements and may need enabling work.

Ask Max about this
Does an electric shower need its own circuit?

Electric showers require an appropriate independent supply designed for the unit and installation. The electrician checks the circuit, protection and isolation against the selected model.

Ask Max about this
What is included in the electrical work for a replacement shower?

The electrical quotation needs to identify the supply, connection and testing work. Shower supply, plumbing changes and wall repairs must be agreed separately in that scope; they should not be assumed to be included in an electrical connection price.

Ask Max about this
Does a replacement electric shower have to be the same make?

Brand alone does not determine compatibility. The electrical rating, cable and water entry positions, dimensions and fixing arrangement matter. Send the old and proposed model details before buying; a replacement that looks similar can still need changes to the supply, plumbing or wall finish.

Ask Max about this
Will changing the electric shower damage the bathroom tiles?

A different casing or fixing pattern may expose old holes or require changes around the unit. Electrical and water entry positions also affect the fit. Compare the models before purchase and agree who handles plumbing, wall repairs and any tiling alongside the electrical work.

Ask Max about this
Why has my electric shower started tripping the electrics?

A shower fault and a problem with its circuit can produce similar symptoms. Stop using the affected shower and arrange assessment rather than repeatedly resetting the protection. Tell Max the model, when the trip occurs and whether anything changed recently, while leaving covers and electrical connections in place.
